A paper on SSBD:repository , a public repository, and SSBD:database , a added-value database , which are developed by Shuichi Ohnami, Team Leader of Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research, Riken, and his colleagues has been published in the Database Issue of the scientific journal Nucleic Acids Research on October 31, 2024. It is expected that these databases will promote sharing and reuse of bioimaging data in life science fields. RIKEN and JST issued a press release on the same day, introducing this paper and the international status and functions of SSBD.".

In the paper, the research team states that SSBD:repository and SSBD:database are positioned as part of the ecosystem that plays a central role in "foundingGIDE," an international consortium that aims to promote standardization and sharing of bioimaging data, and it is expected to contribute to the scientific development of society as a whole through the advancement of open science by increasing the transparency and reliability of science.

For more details, please read the press release, "Life Science Advances through Bioimaging Data Sharing - RIKEN's Data Sharing Ecosystem Connects the World " and the article, "SSBD: an ecosystem for enhanced sharing and reuse of bioimaging data".

SSBD is developed as a part of JST Database Integration Coordination Program (DICP), "Development of a global data sharing system for bioimaging data " .
